Let $E$ be a Fréchet space with a basis $\{ U_{n}:n\in \mathbb{N}\} $ of absolutely convex neighborhoods of zero. Then \begin{itemize} \item[(1)] $E$ is said to satisfy the density condition (in the sense of Heinrich) if there exists a double sequence $(B_{n,k})_{n,k\in\mathbb{N}}$ of bounded subsets of $E$ such that, for each $n\in\mathbb{N}$ and each bounded set $C\subset E$, there is $k\in\mathbb{N}$ with $C\subset B_{n,k}+U_{n}$; \item[(2)] a family $\{ A_{\alpha}:\alpha\in\mathbb{N}^{\mathbb{N}}\} $ of subsets of $E$ covering $E$ such that $A_{\alpha}\subset A_{\beta}$ if $\alpha\leq\beta$ is called a resolution for $E$; \item[(3)] a resolution $\{ A_{\alpha}:\alpha\in\mathbb{N}^{\mathbb{N}}\} $ for $E$ is called weakly compactly generated if there exists an absolutely convex weakly compact set $K\subset E$ such that $$A_{\alpha}=\bigcap_{n\in \mathbb{N}}t(\alpha(n) K+U_{n}) $$ for every $\alpha\in\mathbb{N}^{\mathbb{N}}$. \end{itemize} ``Motivated by the density condition in the sense of Heinrich for Fréchet spaces and by some reults of \textit{G. Schlüchtermann} and \textit{R. F. Wheeler} [Math. Z. 199, No. 3, 387--398 (1988; Zbl 0637.46011)] for Banach spaces, we characterize, in terms of certain weakly compact resolutions, those Fréchet spaces enjoying the property that each bounded subset of its Mackey$^{\ast}$ dual is metrizable. We also characterize those Köthe echelon spaces $\lambda_{p}(A) $ as well as those Fréchet spaces $C_{k}(Xt) $ of real-valued continuous functions equipped with the compact-open topology that enjoy this property.''
