Dubrovin proved that the ancestor Gromov-Witten invariants of manifolds with a semi-simple quantum cohomology can be computed via the Eynard-Orantin recursion. The main goal of the paper under review is to interpret the Eynard-Orantin recursion in terms of differential operator constraints for the total ancestor potential, leading in particular to a simple proof of the recursion relation, by proving that the correlation functions can be expressed in terms of period integrals and phase forms. This suggests that these should be compared to the correlation functions of the twisted vertex algebra representation. Let \(f\) be the germ of a holomorphic function with an isolated critical point at 0, and let \(F(t,x)\), \(t\in B\) be a fixed miniversal deformation with a primitive form \(\omega\) such that \(B\) inherits a Frobenius structure. Givental's higher-genus reconstruction formalism gives rise to the ancestor correlation functions. Let \(\mathcal{A}_t(h,\mathbf{q})\) be the total ancestor potential of the singularity, which is a vector in the Fock space. The main results of the paper under review are as follows: 1) The total ancestor \(\mathcal{A}_t(h,\mathbf{q})\) satisfies certain explicit differential equations. 2) The differential operator constraints determine a system of recursion relations that coincide with the local Eynard-Orantin recursion. 3) The \(n\)-point series of a semi-simple cohomological field theory with a flat identity satisfies the local Eynard-Orantin recursion relations. The last result was proven before by Dunnin-Barkowski, Orantin, Shadrin, Spitz, and here it follows from 1) and 2) by noting that differential operators defined in this paper in the setting of singularity theory, can be defined for any semi-simple Frobenius manifold that has an Euler vector field, and one can then use Teleman's classification of semisimple cohomoligcal field theories.
