The aim of this paper is to construct some absorbing boundary conditions for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation: \[ \begin{cases} (i\partial _{t}+\partial _{x}^{2})u+f(u,\overline{u},\partial _{x}u,\partial _{x}\overline{u})=0, &(t,x)\in \mathbb{R}^{+}\times \mathbb{R},\\ u=u_{0}, \quad t=0, \quad \operatorname{supp}u\subset \mathbb{R}^{+},&{} \end{cases} \] where \(f\)\ is a \(C^{\infty }\) function of type \(f(u,\overline{u})\)\ or \( u\partial _{x}u.\) The construction of absorbing boundary conditions is to look for conditions satisfied by \(u\)\ of the form \((\partial _{x}-B)u|_{x=0}=0,\) where \(B(u,t,D_{t})\)\ is an operator to be defined such that the problem: \[ \begin{cases} (i\partial _{t}+\partial _{x}^{2})u+f(u,\overline{u},\partial _{x}u,\partial _{x}\overline{u})=0, &(t,x)\in \left] 0,T\right[ \times \mathbb{R}, \\ (\partial _{x}-B)u=0, \quad t=0, \qquad u=u_{0},\quad t=0,&{} \end{cases} \] accurately approximates the initial problem and gives good numerical computations. The strategy to design absorbing boundary conditions in such case is to use the paradifferential calculus to tackle the nonlinearity, instead of pseudodifferential calculus used in the linear case. The paper ends with numerical computations of the solution of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with the designed absorbing boundary conditions.
