Let F be an algebraically closed field of prime characteristic, and let G be a finite group. Let B be a block of G (considered as a subalgebra of FG), let I be an ideal of B and set \(A:=B/I\). Then the conjugation action induces G-algebra structures on B and A. If the ring \(A^ G\) of G-fixed points is local then, following J. A. Green, one can define a defect group D of A in G. Moreover, right and left multiplication induce a \(G\times G\)-module structure on A, and if \(A^ G\) is local then this module is indecomposable. The author proves that in this case a vertex of A in \(G\times G\) contains \(D^{\Delta}=\{(d,d):\) \(d\in D\}\) and is contained in \(D\times D\), up to conjugation. Furthermore, \(D^{\Delta}\) is a vertex of A in \(G\times G\) if and only if \(I=0\).
