Let \(X\) be a smooth 3-fold of general type with Chern classes \(c_1, c_2, c_3\). One would like to know what relations the Chern numbers \(c_1^3, c_1c_2, c_3\) satisfy and if all triples satisfying such relations are the Chern numbers of some 3-fold. \textit{B. Hunt} [J. Differ. Geom. 30, No. 1, 51-153 (1989; Zbl 0712.14022)] considered \(X\) to be either minimal or with an ample canonical bundle \(K\) and studied the atlas of such 3-folds in the \(c_1c_2 \neq 0\) chart. There he defined two zones: the zone SCI (smooth complete intersection)and the zone E and a conjecture about such zones was made. In the paper under review the author determines the zone SCI by using the Newton functions. At the same time the author gives a negative answer to Hunt's question 10.2.5 (in the paper cited above).
