Hypergeometric type functions and their symmetries (Q398727)

This impressive article of 54 pages is an encyclopedic approach of various classes of hypergeometric type differential equations and their solutions. The paper is divided into seven chapters, each containing several sections. The first two preliminary chapters ``Introduction'' and ``Preliminaries'' are followed by chapters on ``The \({}_2F_1\) or the hypergeometric equation'', ``The \({}_1F_1\) and \({}_2F_0\) equation'', ``The \({}_0F_1\) equation'', ``The Gegenbauer equation'' and ``The Hermite equation''. Although the paper is strongly inspired by the book ``Special functions of mathematical physics'' by Nikiforov and Uvarov, the author tries to follow ``an intrinsic logic of the subject'' without too much regard for the traditions. If possible, he applies the same pattern to each class of hypergeometric type equation, discussing recurrence relations of the solutions, their integral representations and their symmetries.
