    Approximate harmonic maps between Riemannian manifolds solve the harmonic map equation modified by a given right-hand side which prescribes the tension field of the map. In this paper, the domain is a compact Riemannian surface while the target can be any Riemannian manifold. The paper is concerned with estimates and bubbling-off for sequences of approximate harmonic maps with tension fields controlled in appropriate spaces. The tension fields are assumed to be uniformly bounded in Morrey spaces \(M^{1,\delta}\) and uniformly integrable in \(L\log L\). Then there is an energy identity for bubble trees with \(L^{2,1}\)-control of gradients as well as \(L^1\)-control of Hessians, stating that the respective norms of bubbles completely account for the energy loss of the sequence in the limit.
