Asymptotically cylindrical 7-manifolds of holonomy \(G_{2}\) with applications to compact irreducible \(G _{2}\)-manifolds (Q708844)

The authors construct new and interesting examples of exponentially asymptotically cylindrical Riemannian \(7\)-manifolds with holonomy group equal to \(G_2\). They also give a few examples of different types of exponentially asymptotically cylindrical \(G_2\)-manifolds and some examples of exponentially asymptotically cylindrical coassociative calibrated submanifolds. Then they show that one of the compact \(G_{2}\)-manifolds constructed by \textit{D. D. Joyce} [Compact manifolds with special holonomy. Oxford Mathematical Monographs. Oxford: Oxford University Press (2000; Zbl 1027.53052)] by desingularisation of a flat orbifold \(T^7/\Gamma \) can be deformed to give one of the compact \(G_{2}\)-manifolds obtainable as a generalized connected sum of two exponentially asymptotically cylindrical \(SU(3)\)-manifolds using the method of \textit{A. Kovalev} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 565, 125--160 (2003; Zbl 1043.53041)]
