The authors use the Kronecker product [see \textit{W. H. Steeb}, Kronecker product of matrices and applications, BI-Wissenschaftsverlag, Mannheim (1991; Zbl 0729.15016)] to show that any pair of Lax representations for a discrete or integrable model generates a third representation. The elements of the pair may be the same and this fact is used in the examples. Of course the dimensions of all three representations are different and the first integrals produced from the third representation by the usual trace formula are composites of the other two. A similar feature of zero-curvature representations is discussed, but in this case the constructive formulae for the third representations are distinct for continuous and discrete models.
