The author studies finite dimensional irreducible representations of the super Yangian associated to the Lie superalgebra \(gl(m,n)\). The super Yangian \(Y(gl(m,n))\) is a \(\mathbb{Z}_2\)-graded Hopf algebra explicitly defined in point 2 of the paper. The author proves a PBW-theorem (theorem 1), which is the basis for his investigations on finite dimensional representations. In point 3 it is proved, that every finite dimensional irreducible representation of \(Y(gl(m,n))\) is of highest weight type and is uniquely characterized by its highest weight (theorems 2 and 3). Moreover there is a necessary and sufficient condition, that a highest weight \(Y(gl(m,n))\)-module is finite dimensional (theorem 4). In a last point it is outlined how to build irreducible representations of \(Y(gl(m,n))\) by an induced module construction. The author uses results obtained by himself and published in an earlier paper for the special case \(Y(gl(1,1))\) [cf. J. Math. Phys. 36, 3854-3865 (1995; Zbl 0855.17012)].
