The author studies a simple approximate scheme for the linear diffusion equation and a nonlinear equation of the form \[ \frac{\partial u}{\partial t}=\frac{\partial}{\partial x}\left( u\frac{\partial u}{\partial x}\right). \] Using some results of algebraical manifold theory, he shows the preservation of the self-adjoint property for the operator in the approximate scheme.
