Let \(S\) be the spectrum of a valuation ring which is henselian and excellent. Let \(X\) be a scheme of finite type over \(S\). From previous work, we know that the stalk of the vanishing cycles at a point of the special fiber only depends on the formal completion at this point [see \textit{V. G. Berkovich}, Invent. Math. 125, No. 2, 367--390 (1996; Zbl 0852.14002); \textit{K. Fujiwara}, Duke Math. J. 80, No. 1, 15--57 (1995; Zbl 0872.14014); \textit{R. Huber}, J. Algebr. Geom. 7, No. 2, 359--403 (1998; Zbl 1013.14007)]. The author refines this result and proves that the perverse monodromy filtration of the vanishing cycles is invariant under formal completion. It is used in an essential way by \textit{P. Boyer} in his study of the vanishing cycles on some Shimura varieties [Invent. Math. 177, No. 2, 239--280 (2009; Zbl 1172.14016)].
