A pseudo-reflection in \(\mathrm{GL}(\mathbb{C}^{n})\) is a linear isomorphism which is not the identity map but leave a hyperplane pointwise invariant. Complex reflection groups are the subgroups of some \(\mathrm{GL}(\mathbb{C}^{n})\) generated by pseudo-reflections. The irreducible finite complex reflection groups have been classified by \textit{G. C. Shephard} and \textit{J. A. Todd} in [Can. J. Math. 6, 274--304 (1954; Zbl 0055.14305)]. They consist of an infinite family \(G(r,p,n)\) where \(p |r\), and 34 exceptional groups labeled \(G_{4}\) to \(G_{37}\). These groups include the finite real reflection groups (Coxeter groups), and can be given Coxeter-type presentations. In the paper paper under review the authors study the minimal length elements in conjugacy classes (minimal elements) of the complex reflection group \(G(r,1,n)\). They set up some connections between the set of minimal elements in different conjugacy classes of \(G(r,1,n)\), which yields a recursive way to produce all minimal elements. For each \(w \in G(r,1,n)\), they give a necessary and sufficient condition under which \(w\) is minimal in terms of its standard components in the standard decomposition. Finally, the authors show that the standard basis elements labeled by some minimal elements form an integral basis for the cocenter of the degenerate cyclotomic Hecke algebra of type \(G(r,1,n)\).
