    \textit{J.-F. Mestre} [C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. I 313, No. 3, 139-142 (1991; Zbl 0745.14013)] shows that there exists an elliptic curve \(\mathbb{E}\) defined over \(\mathbb{Q} (T)\) the rank of which is \(\geq 11\). Given an elliptic curve \(E\) defined over \(\mathbb{Q}\) and \(N\) a positive integer one considers \[ S=S(N)=\sum(2+a_ p) \log p/(p+1-a_ p)\text{ and }S'=S'(N)=\sum(- a)_ p \log p), \] where \(a_ p=p+1-\# E(\mathbb{F}_ p)\) and \(p\) runs through the prime numbers which are \(\leq N\). It is known that elliptic curves with sufficiently large \(S\) and \(S'\) have high rank [\textit{J.-F. Mestre}, C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. I 295, 643-644 (1982; Zbl 0541.14027)]. The author considers the family of elliptic curves \(\{E_{t_ 1/t_ 2}\}\), where \(E_ t\) is an elliptic curve over \(\mathbb{Q}\) obtained by specializing \(T\) to \(t \in \mathbb{Q}\) and \((t_ 1,t_ 2)\) runs over coprime integers satisfying \(1 \leq t_ 1 \leq 1000\) and \(1 \leq t_ 2 \leq 100\). He looks for curves in this family satisfying \(S_{401}>39\), \(S_{1009}>54\) and \(S_{1009}>17000\) and obtains two curves \(E_{537/71}\) and \(E_{866/35}\) of rank at least 17.
