The authors investigate fundamental solutions of both the fourth-order Kirchhoff and the sixth-order Reissner and Mindlin plate theories. The underlying material behaviour is assumed to be transversely isotropic. It is shown that the fundamental solution of bi-harmonic problem can be obtained directly from the general fundamental solution of the sixth-order plate problem as the limit case when the plate thickness approaches zero and/or when the transverse shear modulus goes to infinity. The considered solution corresponds to the analytical solution of an infinite thin clamped circular plate submitted to a concentrated unit load applied at its center.
