This paper is devoted to study a Cauchy problem of the generalized IMBq (improved Marchenkov-Boussinesq) equation, that is \[ u_{tt}-\Delta u_{tt}-\Delta u=\Delta f(u),\;(x,t)\in\mathbb{R}^n \times (0,\infty), \] \[ u(x,0)=u_0(x),\;u_t(x,0)=u_1(x),\;x\in\mathbb{R}^n, \] where \(u(x,t)\) denotes the unknown function, \(f(s)\) is the given nonlinear function, \(u_0,u_1\) are the given initial value functions, and \(\Delta\) denotes the Laplace operator in \(\mathbb{R}^n\). Under some natural conditions on \(f,u_0,u_1\) the authors prove the existence and uniqueness of the global strong solution and the global classical solution. Moreover the nonexistence of the global solution is also discussed.
