With a view to applications in regenerative queueing models a review of recently developed methods of qualitative analysis for regenerative processes is presented. An essential element of the analysis is a careful use of appropriate probability metrics. For example finite time continuity estimates for recurrent equations are given, the convergence rate for regenerative processes is investigated, the estimation of the difference of two regenerative processes is discussed, and estimates of first-occurence times of certain events are developed. Several applications to queueing models are given. It is shown that these methods - although of qualitative nature - often lead to good quantiative estimates.
