Consider the following differential equation \[ \begin{cases} \varepsilon u_\varepsilon^{\prime\prime}(t)+Au_\varepsilon(t)+u_\varepsilon^{\prime}(t)=0,& t\geq 0,\\ (u_\varepsilon,u_\varepsilon^\prime)(0)=(u_0,u_1), \end{cases} \] in a Hilbert space \(H\), where \(A\) is a nonnegative self-adjoint operator in \(H\) and \(\varepsilon\in (0,1]\). In the paper under review, the authors establish an alternative proof of a well-known result of Kisynski regarding the asymptotic behavior of the solution \(u_\varepsilon(t)\) of the above equation as \(\varepsilon\to 0\) (please see Theorem 1.1). Furthermore, they obtain the following result: Theorem. Assume that \((u_0,u_1)\in D(A^{3/2}) \times D(A^{1/2})\). Then there exists a positive constant \(C>0\) such that the unique solution \(u_\varepsilon(t)\) of the above equation satisfies the estimate: \begin{align*} &\left\| u_\varepsilon(t)-e^{-tA}u_0-\varepsilon\left(e^{-tA}(Au_0+u_1)-tA^2e^{-tA}u_0-e^{-t/\varepsilon}(Au_0+u_1)\right)\right\|\\ &\quad\quad\leq C\varepsilon^{3/2}\left(\|A^{3/2}u_0\|+\|A^{1/2}(Au_0+u_1)\|\right), \end{align*} for every \(t\geq 0\).
