The authors consider a three-layer model in which an inhomogeneous half-space is over-lain by a hydrostatically stressed transversely isotropic layer with a poroelastic layer at the top. The Love-type horizontally polarized (SH-) elastic wave is excited by an impulsive point source lying in the sandwiched transversely isotropic layer. The solution is sought using the Fourier transform and Green's function. Specifically, the dispersion relation of the Love wave in the poroelastic layer is obtained. The effects of porosity, inhomogeneity, thickness ratio of two layers and that of transverse isotropy are graphically displayed as phase velocity versus wave number graphs.
