The paper under review is devoted to the slope-stability of Picard sheaves and the deformations of Picard bundles. Given two coprime integers \(d,n\) and \(C\) a smooth irreducible complex projective curve of genus \(g\ge 2\), let \(M_{n,d}\) denote the moduli space of stable vector bundles on \(C\) of rank \(n\) and degree \(d\) and \(M_{n,\xi}\) the moduli space of stable bundles of rank \(n\) with fixed determinant \(\xi\). Given a universal (or Picard) bundle \(\mathcal{U}\) over \(M_{n,d}\times C\) and a vector bundle \(E\) on \(C\), a \emph{generalised Picard sheaf} is the torsion-free sheaf on \(M_{n,d}\) defined as \((p_1)_*(p_2^*(E)\otimes \mathcal{U})\). A similar definition can be given by replacing \(M_{n,d}\) with \(M_{n,\xi}\). When \(H^1(C, E\otimes F)=0\) for all \(F\) in \(M_{n,d}\), then the generalized Picard sheaf is locally free and coincides with the Fourier-Mukai transform. Generalized Picard sheaves have been studied in literature and many partial results on stability are known. In this paper, the authors prove several new results on the stability of generalised Picard sheaves. In the second part of the paper, the authors study deformations of Picard bundles. They construct and describe morphisms from moduli spaces of bundles on \(C\) to moduli spaces of bundles on \(M_{n,d}\). For \(g\ge3\), \(n\ge2\), with some additional restrictions, this leads to the construction of a fine moduli space for deformations of Picard bundles.
