\textit{R. Osserman} conjectured in [Am. Math. Mon. 97, 731-756 (1990; Zbl 0722.53001)] that if Jacobi operators of a Riemannian manifold \((M,g)\) have constant eigenvalues on the unit sphere bundle, then \((M,g)\) is locally flat or rank-one symmetric. In connection with Osserman's problems in the pseudo-Riemannian setting, in the paper under review there are investigated paraquaternionic Kähler manifolds, i.e. Riemannian manifolds \((M, g)\) endowed with a rank-3 subbundle of \(\text{End}(TM)\) with local basis \(\{J_1, J_2, J_3\}\) satisfying \(J_a^2 = \varepsilon_a\text{Id}\), \(J_1 J_2 = -J_2 J_1 = J_3\), \(\varepsilon_1 = \varepsilon_2 = - \varepsilon_3 = 1\), \(g(J_a X, J_a Y) = - \varepsilon_a g(X,Y)\), \(a=1,\dots,3\), and such that this subbundle is parallel with respect to the Riemannian connection of \(g\). In particular, the authors define paraquaternionic sectional curvatures and give a characterization of constant paraquaternionic sectional curvature in terms of the existence of certain eigenspaces for the Jacobi operators along spacelike, timelike and null geodesics.
