In this paper, smashing localizations, i.e., the localizing functor is given by tensoring, in the derived category of unbounded derived category \({\b D}(R)\) of a ring \(R\) are studied. \textit{R. W. Thomason} [Compos. Math. 105, No. 1, 1--27 (1997; Zbl 0873.18003)] classified compactly generated localizations for commutative rings. The authors generalize the notion of homological epimorphism of \textit{D. Pauksztello} [Commun. Algebra 37, No. 7, 2337--2350 (2009; Zbl 1189.18005)] and show that there is surjective correspondence from the class of homological epimorphisms in the homotopy category of dg algebras over \(k\) originating in \(A\) to the set of smashing localizing classes, in \({\mathbf D}(A)\). Finally, for \(k\)-algebras \(R\), over a commutative ring \(k\), of weak global dimension at most one, a bijection between the equivalence classes of homological epimorphisms \(f:R\to S\) originating at \(R\) and smashing localizing subcategories of \({\mathbf D}(R)\) is established. For commutative ring compactly generated localizations correspond to flat ring epimorphisms. Next, a classification of homological epimorphisms for valuation domains is given. The Telescope Conjecture holds for a triangulated category if every smashing localization is a compactly generated localization. Using the precedings results, it is shown that the telescope conjecture holds for \({\mathbf D}(R)\) when \(R\) is von Neumann regular and commutative.
