The authors present some new ideas to derive a priori second-order estimates for a wide class of fully nonlinear parabolic equations of the form \[ f\big(\lambda (\nabla^2u+\chi) \big)=e^{u_t+\psi}\quad \text{ in }M\times\{t>0\}, \] where \((M,g)\) is a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension \(n\geq 2\) with smooth boundary \(\partial M\), \(f\) is a smooth symmetric function of \(n\) variables, \(\chi\) is a smooth \((0,2)\)-tensor on \(\overline{M}=M\cup \partial M\), \(\nabla^2u\) stands for the spatial Hessian of \(u\) with \(\nabla\) denoting the Levi-Civita connection of \((M,g)\), \(u_t=\partial u/\partial t\), \(\lambda(A)=(\lambda_1,\dots,\lambda_n)\) are the eigenvalues of a \((0,2)\)-tensor \(A\), and \(\psi\in C^\infty(\overline{M}\times\{t\geq0\})\). The methods developed in the paper produce new existence results for initial-boundary value problems in \(\mathbb R^n\), and are powerful enough to work in general Riemannian manifolds.
