An extension of the well-known Titchmarsh convolution theorem is considered. It claims that for sequences a and b sufficiently rapidly decaying on \({\mathbb{R}}_-\) and slowly growing on \({\mathbb{R}}_+\) the following equality holds (*) \(\inf \sup p a*b=\inf \sup p a+\inf \sup p b.\) Similar results appeared earlier in \textit{Y. Domar} [Lect. Notes Math. 975, 214-226 (1983; Zbl 0501.47010)]. Sharp conditions on asymptotics of a and b for (*) to be valid are obtained. A certain generalization of the Fourier transform is employed. It associates with sequences so-called asymptotically holomorphic functions, i.e. functions on the plane with controlled decay of \({\bar \partial}\)- derivative at infinity. [Methods of investigations of these functions are described in a paper by the author and \textit{A. L. Volberg} in Algebra and analysis 1, No.1, 146-177 (1989)]. Now, an analogous result for functions on \({\mathbb{R}}\) is obtained. See ibid. 1, No.4, 17-53 (1989).
