Although it is very easy to shew that modal systems like T contain infinitely many non-equivalent modalities it does not appear to have been shewn that in these systems there are no distinct but equivalent modalities. Obviously a system can have infinitely many non-equivalent modalities without all distinct modalities being non-equivalent. The author first proves that a wide range of extensions of T have no distinct equivalent modalities. He then shews that while K4 (and KD4) have equivalent distinct modalities yet, unlike S4, they have infinitely non- equivalent ones. KB, KTB and KDB all have infinitely many modalities, but not all their distinct modalities are non-equivalent.
