Two dimensional splines of smoothness class \(C^k\) are studied in this paper. They are piecewise polynomials on the four-direction mesh (sometimes called criss-cross partition). On several geometric subsets -- such as the square -- splines of sufficiently high algebraic polynomial degree are found that are invariant with respect to transformations from the group of symmetries of the subset. They are also required to form a partition of unity. Existence of such invariant splines for a given smoothness and minimal degree is established. Uniqueness for such splines is, however, not available. In order to allow for practical computations with these splines, the coefficients of their Bernstein-Bézier representations are identified too.
