The application of the bond graph technique to continuous structures is not well established as yet. Hence, any meaningful attempt as the present one deserves the attention of researchers developing numerical techniques for the solution of complex problems. After a brief discussion of the approaches done up to now, the authors study the free vibration of a hyperelastic thin plate clamped in its central area. They make use of the extended bond graph method developed earlier by one of them (M. E. Ingrim). It is shown that damping can be taken into account very conveniently. Comparison with finite element results (NASTRAN) exhibits very good agreement for the fundamental frequency.
