The robust stability problem of descriptor systems is more complicated than the one of normal systems, because the properties of regularity and impulse immunity are always closely related to stability. To ensure a descriptor system to be asymptotically stable in case of existence of perturbations, it is necessary to eliminate the infinite poles if they exist in the system. Here, a unified approach based on Lyapunov stability theory is presented to investigate stability conditions for a class of uncertain descriptor systems with unstructured or structured perturbations and for systems with or without control. It is shown that the resulting stability can be determined via the solution of a generalized algebraic Riccati matrix equation. Upper bounds of the state response can be estimated using the presented approach. Two state feedback robust stabilizers for systems having the properties of normalizability or impulse controllability are also constructed.
