These lecture notes are concerned with connected complex commutative Lie groups on which every holomorphic function is constant, called ``toroidal groups''. Such groups are also known under many other names like ``Cousin groups'', ``\((H,C)\)-groups'', ``quasi-torus'', or ``semi-torus'', or, if algebraic, ``semi-Abelian variety'' or ``quasi-Abelian variety''. They are a natural generalization of compact complex tori (of abelian varieties in the algebraic case). Concerning these ``toroidal groups'' a number of topics are studied, in particular line bundles, cohomology, automorphic forms, Riemann forms (algebraicity conditions). In many aspects these results on toroidal groups generalize the classical results on compact complex tori. These lecture notes give a comprehensive overview on these questions. They contain many results which have not appeared in book form before and should therefore be a useful reference for every working mathematician encountering these toroidal groups.
