The authors study Tingley's isometric extension problem for finite-dimensional polyhedral Banach spaces. In [Geom. Dedicata 22, 371--378 (1987; Zbl 0615.51005)], \textit{D. Tingley} posed the isometric extension problem: ``Let \(S_X\) and \(S_Y\) be the unit spheres of real normed spaces \(X\) and \(Y\), respectively. If \(T: S_X \rightarrow S_Y\) is a surjective isometry, then can \(T\) be extended to be a linear or affine isometry on the whole space \(X\)?'' This question is still open for general spaces, even in the two-dimensional case. The main result of this paper is that every surjective isometry between unit spheres of finite-dimensional polyhedral Banach spaces can be extended to be a linear isometry on the whole space. Moreover, the authors extract two weaker but natural and interesting questions, namely, when such an isometry exists, whether the corresponding spaces are isometric or at least isomorphic, which is related to a famous open problem on Lipschitz homeomorphisms.
