The author introduces the definition of semiperfect Jordan pairs. A Jordan pair \(V\) is called semiperfect if \(V/\operatorname{Rad} V\) has acc and dcc on principal inner ideals, and idempotents lift from \(V/\operatorname{Rad} V\) to \(V\). It is proved that the associative and the Jordan definition of semiperfect are consistent. The main result establishes the following equivalent conditions for the Jordan pair \(V\): (i) \(V\) is semiperfect; (ii) \(V\) contains a finite set \(\{e_1,\ldots, e_n\}\) of local idempotents such that \(V_0(e_1)\cap \cdots\cap V_0(e_n)\subseteq \operatorname{Rad}V\); (iii) \(V\) is idempotent-finite, there exists a complete idempotent and strictly primitive idempotents are local. As corollaries it is proved that homomorphic images of semiperfect Jordan pairs are semiperfect and a semiperfect Jordan pair is connected iff any two local idempotents are connected. The associative counterpart of the main result is due to \textit{B. J. Mueller} [Ill. J. Math. 14, 464--467 (1970; Zbl 0197.30903)].
