The author considers the development and applications of the field equations of micromorphic electromagntic (M-EM) theory which involves five extra vectors and five second-order tensors as well as the usual Maxwell theory vectors. He opens by setting down the appropriate partial differential equations, pointing out that the classical fields arise from a surface averaging process whereas the extra fields and tensors, respectively, arise from a volume averaging process and a surface averaging of the moments of the classical fields. From these equations, he is able to suggest an expression for the micromorphic energy and generalisations of analysis associated with the Poynting vector theorem. Linear constitutive equations are produced which are relevant for anisodropic media, and conditions for the micromorphic energy to be nonnegative are developed. The relevant field equations are produced for isotropic media only and conditions for vector and tensor waves are discussed. The idea of micropol or micromorphic electromagnetic waves is introduced, and the suggestion is made that these waves are associated with spinwaves in quantum mechanics. It should be noted that the author does not use Giorgi units.
