Norms and CB norms of Jordan elementary operators. (Q1414106)

The author proves some lower bounds for norms and CB-norms of elementary operators on \(\mathcal{B}(H)\). The main result concerns the operator \(T_{a,b}x=axb+bxa\). The author with an ingenious argument shows that \(\| T_{a,b}\| \geq\| a\| \| b\| \), thus proving a long-standing conjecture of \textit{M. Mathieu} [Can. Math. Bull. 32, 490--497 (1989; Zbl 0641.46037); Bull. Austral. Math. Soc. 42, 115--120 (19990; Zbl 0722.46029)].
