It is known that the classical Hill problem is a limit version of the restricted three body problem (RTBP). The authors focus on the planar case. They present a detailed description of the dynamics, when the zero velocity curve confines the motion. Moreover several homoclinic and heteroclinic connections are displayed and the geometrical behaviour of the center-stable/unstable manifolds of the libration points \(L_1\) and \(L_2\) is studied. All these results immediately translate to the RTBP because of the transversality. The methodology presented here can be applied to a large variety of problems, in particular to atomic physics.
