Let \(E_2^{s,t}= \text{Ext}_A^{s,t} (\mathbb{Z}_p,\mathbb{Z}_p)\) be the \(E_2\)-term of the Adams spectral sequence for \(\pi_*(S)\). In [Hiroshima Math. J. 28, No. 2, 183-205 (1998; Zbl 0911.55007)], the author and \textit{Q. Zheng} showed the existence of the essential homotopy elements detected by \(b_{n-1}g_0 \gamma_3\in E_2^{7,t}\) for \(p\geq 7\) and \(n\geq 4\), using the existence of Cohen's elements \(\zeta_{n-1}\) detected by \(h_0b_{n-1}\). Here \(t=(p^n+3 (p^2+p+1)) q\) for \(q=2p-2\). In fact, they showed that \(b_{n-1}g_0\in E^{4,*}_2 (V(2))\) survives to the homotopy element \(\zeta_{n-1}'' \in\pi_* (V(2))\), and that the composite \(j\gamma^3 \zeta_{n-1}''\) is detected by \(b_{n-1}g_0 \gamma_3\). Here \(V(2)\) denotes the Smith-Toda spectrum, \(\gamma: \Sigma^{(p^2+p +1) q}V(2)\to V(2)\), the \(v_3\)-periodic map, and \(\widetilde j:V(2) \to \Sigma^{(p+2) q+3}S\), the projection to the top cell. Since \(\beta(h_n)= b_{n-1}\) for the Bockstein operation \(\beta\), it is natural to ask if \(h_ng_0 \gamma_3\in E_2^{6,t}\) is a permanent cycle. This paper answers this question affirmatively. The argument is the same. That is, the author shows that \(h_ng_0 \in E_2^{3,*}(V(2))\) survives to the homotopy elements \(\eta_n''\in \pi_* (V(2))\), and that the composite \(j\gamma\eta_n''\) is detected by \(h_ng_0 \gamma_3\). As the author points out, a difference appears in the first step and it requires a new approach, which also works to show \(\zeta_{n-1}'' \in\pi_*(V(2))\). The proof is given by observing the Adams resolution and Toda's results on \(\mathbb{Z}_p\)-spaces \((M\)-module spectra, for mod \(p\) Moore spectrum \(M)\) as before.
