Implicit and semi-implicit well-balanced finite-volume methods for systems of balance laws (English)
    9 December 2022
The authors develop a general procedure to design high order implicit and semi-implicit finite volume schemes for any one dimensional system of balance laws. The main ingredient of these methods is a well-balanced reconstruction operator. A general result stating the well-balanced property of these schemes is proved. Such property is preserved when quadrature formulas are used to approximate the averages and the integral of the source term in the cells. In the case of the time evolution, the stated procedure is combined with a time discretization method of type RK-IMEX or RK-implicit. The theoretical results are checked using several numerical tests by considering scalar problems such as the linear transport and Burgers equations, and more complex systems as shallow water equations in the presence of variable bathymetry and Manning friction.
