In this paper, the authors study the blowup behavior of a class of strongly perturbed wave equations with a focusing power nonlinearity in three spatial dimensions. In the unperturbed case, the basic semilinear wave equation \((\partial_t^2-\Delta)u=|u|^{p-1}u\) admits the explicit ODE blowup solutions \(c_p (T-t)^{-2/(p-1)}\). It is shown that, in the radial case, when \(p>3\), the ODE blowup profile still describes the asymptotics of stable blowup (inside the backward light cone through blow up time \(T\)), for a general class of (radial) perturbation \((\partial_t^2-\Delta)u=|u|^{p-1}u+A(t,r,u)+B(t,r,u)u_t+C(t,r,u) u_r\), where \(A\) grows slower than the leading nonlinearity, \(B, C\) are Lipschitz in \(u\), as well as certain auxiliary smooth conditions. As a consequence, stable ODE-type blowup is a universal phenomenon that exists in a large class of semilinear wave equations.
