This paper develops a theory of CW(\(A\))-complexes, generalizing Whitehead's classical notion of CW complex. Instead of building spaces by attaching disks \(D^{n}\) along maps of their boundary, rather for some fixed space \(A\) one attaches a cone on a reduced suspension \(C\Sigma^{n-1}A\) along a map of \(\Sigma^{n-1}A\). Under suitable restrictions on the space \(A\) one obtains the natural extensions of the classical results for CW-complexes. In particular it is shown that if \(A\) is a CW(\(B)\) complex and \(X\) a generalized CW(\(A)\)-complex then \(X\) is a generalized CW(\(B)\)-complex. It is further shown that if \(X\) and \(Y\) are CW\((A)\)-complexes and \(f: X \rightarrow Y\) is a continuous map then \(f\) is a homotopy equivalence if and only if it is a weak \(A\)-equivalence. The approach is to model the proofs on the geometric intuition based on Whitehead's original theory.
