The homothetic motions in planes passing through the origin in the three-dimensional space \(\mathbb R^3\) and making a field with the quaternionic product in \(\mathbb{R}^3\), are studied, by taking into account the corresponding previous investigations of \textit{H. H. Hacisalihoglu} [Proc. R. IR. Acad., Sect. A 71, 13--17 (1971; Zbl 0228.70003)]; \textit{O. P. Agrawall} [Hamilton operators and dual-number quaternions in spatial kinematic, Mech. Mach. Theory 22, No.~6, 569--575 (1987)], \textit{Y. Yayli} [Homothetic motions at \(E^4\). Mech. Mach. Theory 27, No.~6, 303--305 (1992)] and \textit{F. R. Pfaff} [Am. Math. Mon. 107, No.~2, 156--162 (2000; Zbl 1076.30522)]. It is shown, that these homothetic motions may be defined by making use of introduced quaternionic \(4\times 4\)-matrices treated as Hamilton operators. Some properties of these motions are established.
