The authors generalize the conception of the fractional Fourier transform which was developed by \textit{N. Wiener} [Nature 123, 944--945 (1929; JFM 55.1168.05)] and \textit{E. U. Condon} [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 23, 158--164 (1937; Zbl 0016.25902)]. For their calculation by the help of an integral transform Mehler's representation formula \[ \sum{\exp(-in\alpha)H_n(\xi) H_n(x)\over 2^n n!\sqrt{\pi}}= {\exp({2\pi\xi\exp(-2i\alpha)(\xi^2+ x^2)\over 1-\exp(-2i\alpha)})\over \sqrt{\pi(1- \exp(- 2i\alpha))}} \] is important, where \(H_n\) are the Hermitean polynomials. Using generalized Clifford-Hermite polynomials introduced by \textit{F. Sommen} [Simon Stevin 62, No. 3/4, 293--319 (1988; Zbl 0668.30040) and J. Math. Anal. Appl. 130, 110--133 (1988; Zbl 0634.30042)] this formula is generalized to the higher-dimensional case. Further it is proved that the tensorial higher-dimensional Fourier transform, coincides with the deduction in the Clifford setting. It should be mentioned that these investigations are important for problems in quantum mechanics, optics and signal processing.
