Let \(A\) be a regular semisimple commutative Banach algebra with structure space \( \Delta(G)\). A closed subset \(E\) of \(\Delta(A)\) is called weakly spectral if there exists \(n\in \mathbb N\) such that \(a^n\) is contained in the closure of the minimal ideal \(j(E)\) consisting of all \(b\) of \(A\) for which \(\hat b\) has compact support disjoint from \( E \). The author presents conditions for a set \(E\) to have weak spectral synthesis and he describes some relations with the weak Ditkin property. He proves injection theorems for weak spectral sets in the structure space of \( A/I\) (for a closed ideal \( I \) of \( A \)) and a Ditkin-Shilov type theorem. Finally, he shows that weak spectral synthesis holds for the Fourier algebra \(A(G)\) of a locally compact group if and only if \( G \) is discrete.
