The author considers the characteristic finite difference methods for enhanced oil recovery. For the cross interference and bounded region, he adopts characteristic finite difference schemes and makes use of thick and thin grids to form a complete set. Optimal order estimates in \(L^ 2\) are obtained, and thus the author solved the well-known theoretical problem proposed by J. Douglass, jun.
