A structurable algebra was defined by \textit{B. N. Allison} [Math. Ann. 237, 133-156 (1978; Zbl 0368.17001)] as a unital algebra with an involution, satisfying the operator identity \[ [T_ z,V_{x,y}]=V_{T_ zx,y}-V_{x,T_{\overline z}y}, \] where \(V_{x,y}(z)=(x\overline y)z+(z\overline y)x-(z\overline x)y\), \(T_ z=V_{z,1}\). The class of structurable algebras includes all alternative algebras with involution, all Jordan algebras (with identical involution), and some other algebras. In the above mentioned paper by Allison all central simple finite dimensional structurable algebras over a nonmodular field were classified. The author shows that there is a gap in this classification by constructing a new simple structurable algebra. It is a 35-dimensional algebra \(T(C)=S+H\), where the skewsymmetric subspace \(S\) coincides with that of the Cayley algebra \(C\), while the symmetric subspace \(H\) is spanned by the tensors \(u\otimes u\), \(u\in S\). Let \(u,v\in S\), \([u,v]_ C\) be the commutator of \(u,v\) in \(C\), \(u\circ v=uv+vu\), \(f(u,v)\) be the canonical bilinear form on \(C\); then multiplication in \(T(C)\) is defined by the rules: \[ [u,v]=[u,v]_ C, \quad[v,u\otimes u]=u\otimes[v,u]_ C+[v,u]_ C\otimes u, \] \[ [u\otimes u, v\otimes v]=f(u,v)[u,v]_ C,\quad u\circ v=u\otimes v,\quad u\circ (v\otimes v)=f(u,v)v+f(v,v)u. \] \[ (u\otimes u)\circ (v\otimes v)=[u,v]_ C\otimes [u,v]_ C+f(u,u)v\otimes v+f(v,v)u\otimes u. \]
