The paper contains two parts. In the first part, following a review of the kinematics and dynamics of Newtonian self-gravitating flows in the Lagrangian framework, the authors present alternative formulations of Lagrangian evolution equations in terms of differential forms and establish conditions for the equivalence of the Lagrangian and Eulerian representations. In the second part, the authors discuss Lagrangian theory of gravitational instability for Newtonian analogues of Friedmann cosmologies. Finally, the authors examine the modeling of space as a 3-torus \({\mathbb T}^3\) as compared to \({\mathbb R}^3\) and prove uniqueness of perturbation solutions of any order on the 3-torus.
