The virtual element methods (VEM) are a variant of the classical Lagrange finite element methods to accommodate the use of polygonal and polyhedral elements. The authors present the \(H(\mathrm{div})\)-conforming and the \(H(\mathbf{curl})\)-conforming spaces for polygonal elements, and corresponding ones for polyhedral elements. Then they recall the \(H^1\)-conforming and \(L^2\)-conforming spaces and discuss the possibility of having exact sequences of VEM spaces.
