The paper presents a two-dimensional elastic-plastic BEM formulation for cracks under mixed-mode loading idealized sawtooth fracture surface. A model is developed to describe experimentally observed non-monotonic, nonlinear dependence of shear crack behaviour on applied shear stress. The accuracy is verified by comparing the calculated stress intensity factors with analytical solutions for a central crack in an infinite plane.
