The property \((\tau)\) for a pair consisting of a probability measures and a weight was introduced in a paper of Talagrand and named after him by Maurey. It was pointed out in a paper of S. Artstein-Avidan, B. Klartag, and V. Milman, that there is a strong connection between the property \((\tau)\) and the functional version of Santalo's inequality. In this paper, the symmetric property \((\tau)\) for the standard Gaussian measure is defined by taking the half of the quadratic cost as a weight and by restricting the functions appearing in the inequality involved in \((\tau)\) to even functions. It is the purpose of this paper, to provide a direct proof based on the Poincaré inequality for this symmetric property. It turns out, that the latter is related to the Laplacian in Gauss space and provides a new proof of the functional Santalo inequality for convex sets, which was not the case in Ball's proof.
