\textit{G. D'Ambra} and \textit{M. Gromov} [Lectures on transformation groups: Geometry and dynamics, Proc. Conf., Cambridge/MA (USA) 1990, Surv. Differ. Geom., Suppl. J. Diff. Geom. 1, 19-111 (1991; Zbl 0752.57017; Zbl 0797.53057)] remarked that for actions on Euclidean space of all semi-simple groups, at least in the \(C^{\text{an}}\)-case (and probably in the \(C^\infty\)-case as well), the action is linearizable. In the paper under review, the authors show that for all \(n>1\) and all \(k=1,\dots,\infty\), every \(C^k\)-action of \(SL(n,\mathbb{R})\) on \(\mathbb{R}^n\) fixing the origin is \(C^k\)-linearizable. Moreover, they classify the \(C^0\)-actions of \(SL(n,\mathbb{R})\) on \(\mathbb{R}^n\). On the other hand, they give examples of \(C^\infty\)-actions of \(SL(2,\mathbb{R})\) on \(\mathbb{R}^3\) and of \(SL(3,\mathbb{R})\) on \(\mathbb{R}^8\) which are not linearizable. The authors conclude the paper with a study of the linearizability of \(SL(n,\mathbb{Z})\)-actions on \(\mathbb{R}^m\).
