Let \(f\) be a multiplicative function, \(S = \{x_1, x_2, \ldots, x_n\}\) a set of distinct positive integers, \((f[x_i, x_j])\) the \(n\times n\) matrix having \(f\) evaluated at the least common multiple \([x_i, x_j]\) of \(x_i\) and \(x_j\) as its \(i,j\) entry, and \((f(x_i, x_j))\) the \(n \times n\) matrix having \(f\) evaluated at the greatest common divisor of \(x_i\) and \(x_j\) as its \(i,j\) entry. The authors calculate \(\text{det} (f[x_i,x_j])\) and \((f[x_i,x_j])^{-1}\) (if it is invertible) when \(S\) is factor-closed, and show that for a certain class of functions \((f(x_i, x_j))\) is a factor of \((f[x_i, x_j])\) in the ring of \(n \times n\) matrices over the integers. In addition, the authors obtain two positive definiteness conditions for \((f[x_i, x_j])\).
