The author presents four types of theorems: 1. For each function from some class of functions there exists a large set such that the restriction of this function to this set belongs to another class of functions (restriction theorem). 2. For each function from some class of functions there exists a large set such that the restriction of this function to this set equals to some function from another class (intersection theorem). 3. For each function from some class of functions and for each reasonably large set there exists a large subset such that the restriction of this function to this subset belongs to another class (controlled restriction theorem). 4. For each function from some class of functions and for each reasonably large set there exists a large subset such that the restriction of this function to this subset equals to some function from another class (controlled intersection theorem). The survey includes numerous theorems of all above kinds concerning continuous, differentiable, smooth and other restrictions starting from classical theorems of Lusin, Blumberg and Nikodým to the most recent result of Olevskij.
